Military Spouse Grants: Where Do Students Find Them?

In a previous blog post, we discussed places that convicted felons can secure minority small business grants.

If you are interested in also attending school, there are options to pursue financial aid resources through any number of networks you have with military service. While most people believe they must be a veteran to tap into financial aid through military resources, this is simply not the case. In fact, if you are married to someone who is serving active duty, or someone who once served in the U.S. military, then you may be entitled to military spouse grants. To determine what your eligibility may be, the first step in the process is to complete a FAFSA form online to determine financial need. Once your school receives the FAFSA student aid report (SAR), they will then notify you of your financial aid opportunities. Among these, you should then inquire about military spouse grants. If your spouse is serving active duty, then inquire also at the local military base with the professionals who handle active duty military benefits and education services.

Keep in mind, as a spouse, that you may not get the full amount of the financial aid that your spouse is entitled to but there are many options made available to you if you are, indeed, married to a military personnel. In most cases, even if you have a felony conviction, you are still entitled to these same benefits.

Grants for convicted felons can be found through a variety of resources but typically it is necessary to first fill out a FASFA form to determine your financial need. From private grants to government grants for tuition, you have to fill out a FASFA form online so you can determine if you have a financial need. Then, depending on the outcome of the FASFA documentation, the school you would like to attend can determine if there are grants and loans available to you. Typically, for felons who want to attend school, there are college grants for felons through the government grants for tuition offered via the Pell Grant program. When you are ready to go to school, be sure to contact the school you want to attend and provide the results documents of your FASFA filing. If you have not yet filled out the FASFA, you can do a Google search for the FASFA form online and find an array of free services that will guide you through completing this important document.
