In the year 2012, it is expected that more than ever, people with felony convictions will start their own small businesses.  With the economy continuing to struggle in rebound, more and more convicted felons are having trouble finding work, ultimately leading to the need to pursue self employment opportunities.  If you have a felony conviction, and if you are consider a small business venture, it will be important to consider how you will fund that business.

Much like students who attend school after a felony conviction, financial aid can be obtained for your business.  Minority scholarships resources for students also open up opportunities for minority small business grants for felons who are starting a business in a similar career choice.  For example, if you have a passion for landscaping and gardening, you may want to find a scholarship for school that is designed to help you learn more about horticulture.  But, if you want to start your own landscape business, then the private companies that provide scholarships for students may also provide grants for felons as well.

When looking for grants this year, as you start your own business ventures, always think outside the box and look for grants in places where scholarships are also provided.  In doing so, you’ll have far greater opportunities to pursue your small business and with little out of pocket expense to you.  In addition, you’ll have grants that will not have to be re-paid which further promotes your business stability and helps you get your feet planted while other people are struggling to find work.  Never give up and never let your felony conviction hold back your dreams for business ownership.

If you are considering, in the new year, the start of your own home-based business, it will be vitally important that you understand how to pursue funding for that business. By securing a small business grant, many of your initial start-up costs can be mitigated and often these grants require little to qualify.
One of the best ways many convicted felons are securing grants it through their use of the minority status on applications. If you are female, disabled, a veteran, African-American, Asian, or Hispanic, you undoubtedly fall into one of the categories for which a minority grant may be yours for the taking. When searching for grants for your home based business, always be sure to use your minority status to your advantage.

Grants for small business are sources of funding that do not have to be re-paid. Often, to qualify for the grant you will have to not only prove your minority status but also provide information on the type of business. In most cases, grantors will ask for a business plan that will outline your mission, goals and financial needs.

When starting your business, always turn to the Small Business Association (SBA) in your area first to be sure you have the most current information on grants in your local community. Then, reach beyond your community and use minority grants, at a national level, to fund your business venture. In doing so, you’ll have greater success in the coming year.

For many convicted felons, this is a vital opportunity to create second chance jobs for felons in your community – once you’ve gotten your own home based business off the ground. Never forget to “pay it forward” to those who have helped you on your way and, once your business is vital and earning a profit, be sure to offer grants to other minorities who wish to start their own businesses as well.  IN doing so, you’ll have a tax deduction for your business and further the affairs of those felons who are also in need.
